Statement from Vireo Health of New York on Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Address Proposal to Legalize the Adult-Use of Cannabis

The following statement can be attributed to Ari Hoffnung, CEO of Vireo Health of New York, one of only 10 organizations licensed in the state to grow, cultivate, manufacture and sell medical cannabis:

“Governor Cuomo’s proposal to legalize the adult-use of cannabis signifies an historic step in ending the decades-long war on drugs that has unjustly targeted communities of color. It will also bring substantial tax revenues to the state in a challenging budgetary environment and create thousands of new good-paying union jobs at a time when an unprecedented number of manufacturing and retail jobs are being lost to other countries, robots, and artificial intelligence.

“As one of the only physician-founded, physician-led medical cannabis companies in the world, Vireo Health applauds the Governor’s proposal to create a Global Cannabis and Hemp Center for Science, Research, and Education at SUNY which would position the Empire State as a leader in cannabis research and contribute to the growing body of medical and scientific knowledge on its applications and safety.”
