STATEMENT FROM MEDICAL MARIJUANA CEO ON YESTERDAY’S BALLOT INITIATIVES AND TRUMP PRESIDENCY

“We congratulate President-Elect Donald J. Trump, a steadfast supporter of state rights, for last night’s victory and call on him to support the passage of the bi-partisan CARERS Act, which would allow state programs to continue without federal inference, create access to banking services for legal marijuana businesses, repeal the punitive tax policies to which cannabis businesses are subject and allow veterans affairs doctors to write recommendations in states with medical marijuana programs.

“November 8th was an historic day for reforming marijuana laws, but additional federal reforms are desperately needed to help make medical marijuana more affordable and accessible to patients. In the coming months, we will work closely with members of the United States Congress to resolve the disconnect between federal and state laws. The changing landscape and the expansion of recreational use clearly necessitates a national dialogue about marijuana as we work towards a common-sense solution.”

Background: Voters in eight states passed ballot initiatives to reform marijuana laws. The States of Arkansas, Florida, Montana and North Dakota will allow for the medicinal use of marijuana while the States of California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada will allow for adult recreational use of marijuana.
