One of Minnesota’s medical marijuana manufacturers says it’s cultivating an extra potent form of the plant that could help reduce costs for patients.
Medication sold through the state’s program has a combination of two major chemical compounds. Minnesota Medical Solutions announced Wednesday they’ve bred a plant with much higher amounts of cannibidiol, which helps treat seizures and other ailments.
“This plant is essentially non-intoxicating,” Chief Executive Kyle Kingsley said.
Most people hear about THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol. But there’s another component of weed called CBD or Cannabidiol which is much less abundant or known. CBD has been found to be useful as an anti-seizure and anti-inflammatory treatment.
During the past 10 months, Minnesota Medical Solutions has been perfecting a new strain of marijuana that is CBD rich. In fact, the plant is being touted as having the more CBD than any other plant in the world.
